New Year's Eve Celebration Locations Louisville

New Year’s Eve is almost here. Many of you are probably wondering how to ring in the New Year. So we thought we’d compile a brief list of some of the events available around Louisville looking to propel you into 2018.

NYE Live is dubbed Louisville’s “biggest party event”. It is situated Downtown at 4th Street Live. This year there will be live music, a confetti cannon, food and video of the ball drop. Ticket prices vary depending on your package but include food and beverages.

The Galt House is hosting two New Year’s Eve Parties. The first is a James Bond themed party hosted in the Grand Ballroom on Sunday, December 31, 8PM—2AM. There will be entertainment by the Louisville Crashers.

The second is a Blackout Affair hosted in the Archibald Cochran Ballroom on Sunday, December 31, 9PM—2AM with entertainment provided by ENCORE. Ticket prices vary and overnight accommodation packages are available some including brunch on the 1st.

The Goat Louisville is also hosting a New Year’s Eve party, which apparently is going to be a stylish affair. There will be live music, food, and beverages. Ticket purchase is a must. Tickets are $70 and include dinner starting at 7pm, or $50 without dinner starting at 9pm.

Whatever you decide to do this New Year’s Eve we hope you have a safe and fun time with family and friends. For us at Family Realty we finish up our real estate Louisville business for 2017 and prepare for 2018. But we do make sure to pause for some fun with family and friends.

Merry Christmas Louisville

Merry Christmas! It is finally here. By this stage I am sure there are gifts lying under the tree, or more likely torn open wrapping and boxes. Many have or will be about to sing many Christmas carols. Others are firing up their kitchens ready to bring out a feast.

Children look forward to a day of playing with toys while we adults look forward to eating and taking an afternoon nap. Christmas is celebrated around the world and is celebrated in many ways by so many people.

Christmas is a day to spend with family and friends celebrating and sharing gifts, time, and laughs. We also acknowledge that this Christmas might be a sad/happy one as one thinks of family and friends who are no longer with us while enjoying those that still are.

We at Family Realty want to say too all of you and especially those we have worked with closely over this year that our thoughts are with you. We hope you have a wonderful day and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year. We consider it a gift to be a part of real estate in Louisville because we love Louisville.

How To Stay Warm Family Realty Style

I keep forgetting to take my jacket with me outside. I open the door and immediately I realize I’ve made a mistake. Temperatures are dropping as we approach the official beginning of winter on December 21st. Many of us are therefore spending more time thinking of how to stay warm. Should we light a gas fire, get a wood fire going, or do we just want to turn up the heat?

Well we suggest that you stay close to real estate Louisville because it is still on fire. Winter is actually a really good time for buyers to buy a home. This is because sellers really need to sell them homes at this stage of the year. Therefore prices are usually more competitive in this season than at any other time.

Here at Family Realty we have some great tools to help if you are considering buying a home. We have a great free buyers program which includes a team working for you, up to date emailed real estate listings, and much more.

We also have an online mortgage calculator as well as the best online home search tool in Louisville which gives you superb and relevant information which you need in looking for houses. You can also sign up for Instant New Home alerts. We even wrote an easy how to sign up blog available here.

So if you would like to reduce the chill and heat up your life with some real estate Louisville, please contact Scott Boehnlein of Family Realty. We have a team of people waiting to help you.

Christmas Events Part 3: Ice Skating and Safaris for Christmas?

Last night I took the family to enjoy the Lights under Louisville which I mentioned in our first Christmas blog of this season. While our kids watched the lights we watched our kids smiling, pointing, and saying, “Cool! Awesome!” Sipping hot chocolate and nibbling on chocolate chip cookies rounded out this special Christmas memory for our family.

We hope today’s blog helps you make Christmas memories with your friends and family this season. Today we want to highlight one very traditional Christmas activity and one not so traditional Christmas activity.

With the first snow of the season falling this last weekend in and around Louisville the Holiday Ice Rink at Holiday Square at 4th and Jefferson seems like the perfect event to highlight. The ice rink features real ice and is set up just for the Christmas season, November 23rd – January 1st.

Prices vary from $9-$12 depending on duration and skate rental inclusion. Tickets can be bought and skates can be hired on site. The rink is open from 4pm-10pm Monday through Thursday, with longer hours Friday-Saturday, and shorter hours on Sunday. For more detailed information you should check their website here.

The second event is a Louisville favorite attraction but a unique Christmas event. The Louisville Zoo will be hosting their last Santa’s Safari for the season this Saturday and Sunday. There are three sessions: 10am, 12pm, and 2pm. Tickets can must be purchased online.

This event looks like lots of fun. Santa Clause will read stories, you will sing songs, and elves will help you create some great Christmas crafts. Holiday goodies and drinks will also be served by Mrs. Clause herself. You will also be able to take your photo with Santa. The event ends with a tour of the heated animal enclosures where you are able to interact with Zoo staff.

So whether you want to go to the North Pole and skate or take a Safari with Santa, you can do it all in Louisville. If you’d also like to sprinkle in some real estate Louisville to your holiday plans, Scott Boehnlein of Family Realty would love to help you.

Cute Cape Code - 330 E Esplanade - $139,000

I love driving around looking at real estate Louisville. There is something special about turning a corner onto a really nice street. When buying a home, the home is obviously important, but a good home on a nice street is just as important. 330 E Esplanade Ave is located on a cute street.

This sweet Cape Cod style home has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, is 1,639 Sq Ft and is listed for $139,000. Walking in the front door you are greeted by a good sized living room with fire place. Off the living room is a glassed in porch perfect for enjoying the Sun in these cooler days.

Also off the living room is a formal dining room which leads into the kitchen. The kitchen overlooks the back yard and also leads down to the large basement. 2 bedrooms and a full bath complete the first floor.

Moving upstairs you will be surprised by a large bedroom with a full bath and some built in storage. The back yard is a good size and flat. A detached 1 car garage sits just behind the house in the front corner of the backyard.

If you are interested in this property please call Susie Gullett of Family Realty. She will be happy to help you and answer any of your questions.

Great New Listing in Devondale Subdivision - $265,000 - 3086 Sq Ft

It might be getting cold in Louisville but real estate Louisville isn’t cooling down. We have a well laid out home on a great street we just listed today! 1601 Clearview Drive is a Cape Cod style 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 3,086 Sq Ft home close to Westport Village and I-264.

This multi-level home has good sized rooms throughout. Opening the front door and moving to the left of the home is a large living room with a fire place on the far wall. This leads into a formal dining area cozy enough for a romantic dinner for two but comfortable enough for family and dinner guests.

Off the formal dining room is an eat-in kitchen featuring Corian counter tops, stainless steel appliances, and an island with breakfast bar. Off the back of the formal dining room is a large Florida room with two large sliding glass doors which look out to the back porch and back yard.

A full bathroom, walk in closet, laundry, and bedroom complete this great first level of the home. Moving upstairs there are two large bedrooms, one with hardwood floors. A nice bathroom completes this level well.

Moving into the basement you are met by two large rooms. One is a large office space with storage, the other is a bar, and entertainment area. Behind these two rooms is an unfinished part of the basement. This space however is large and good for storage or as a work bench area.

This home is great for entertaining all year round with its good sized social areas on the main living level, in the basement, and in the backyard. A detached two car garage is another plus to this home situated in the desired Devondale subdivision.

Scott Boehnlein of Family Realty would love to help you make this house your home. Please contact him to arrange a private viewing of this home or if you have any questions.

A Canine Christmas: A gift guide for dog lovers

At Family Realty we know for many families their dog is a much loved member of the family. So we thought you might like a blog that will help you spoil your dog this Christmas. If you’re one of those people who need help coming up with gift ideas for their spouse, you might find putting together a wish list for your dog to be a challenge.

You could always opt for the obligatory chew toy or squeak ball, but that’s a little like giving your spouse a Christmas sweater every year. Your dog doesn’t remember what he got for Christmas last year (as far as we know), but he’s still a member of the family. You’d like to get him something that’ll provide some enjoyment and, if possible, some exercise too. Fortunately, there are plenty of unique gift ideas out there for your furry pal, and there are people who can help you find them.

Trust the experts and your dog

The folks at your local pet store have plenty of knowledge and experience when it comes to dogs; they even know about gift ideas. You can always ask them which toys are the most popular this year, or what gifts are best for your dog. Some are breed-specific, and some are popular for all dogs, such as dog beds, which come in all shapes and sizes. Your veterinarian is also a good source of information, and may even have some special chew toys or other items in stock.

It’s also helpful to think about what activities your dog likes most, such as going for a walk after dinner, which would make a leash that’s visible after dark a terrific idea. If your pooch needs some obedience training, you might include a gift that could help training a little easier, such as a harness.

Something different

Ultimately, you can’t go too wrong when thinking up a wish list for your dog - he won’t ask for a gift receipt if he doesn’t like something - so go ahead and include gifts that are a little off the wall. At $10 each, you can afford to include a few doggie cigar chew toys. Or how about a 6-pack of beer, just between pals? Bowser Beer is a non-alcoholic “brew” that contains beef and chicken-based ingredients. Why not ask for a subscription to BarkBox, a monthly subscription service that sends a goodie of the month box straight to your door.

All about presentation

Unusual gifts are fun but your dog may not take to something right away if he doesn’t recognize it (such as a fake cigar or harness, for instance). Try combining it with something your pet knows very well, such as a favorite dog treat, and try to associate one with the other. For dogs, gifts, like everything else, are a sensory experience, something they need to smell and taste to become comfortable with.

Dog clothing?

Yep, there is such a thing. It may not have caught on everywhere yet, but there are some dashing doggie ensembles out there for Christmas. Your dog will look festive in a red and white striped pajama piece by Drs. Foster and Smith. It’s an outfit made of soft cloth. It’s great if you live in a cold-weather climate, as is a warm, fur-lined dog coat for those frigid days when you just know your pooch is as cold as you are.

Canine security

If you want to keep tabs on your pet, think about asking for a monitoring camera. Pawbo and PetChatz offer HD versions that are unobtrusive and reliable. They include video and audio capabilities so that you can interact with your pet if things don’t look quite right. Many dog tracking collars also include audio capability, allowing your pet to hear your voice if he appears poised for a getaway.

Coming up with a gift list for your dog is not that different than brainstorming ideas for a family member. Think about what he likes and dislikes, be a little creative, and keep it simple. No problem!

We hope our dog related realty blogs have been a help to you this year. If you have any real estate needs we know real estate Louisville and would love to help you. Please contact Scott Boehnlein or any one of our dedicated agents here at Family Realty. We’d love to help you.

Christmas Events Part 2: Horses and Christmas?

Christmas in Kentucky continues! And Family Realty is loving it! Ask anyone around the US or even the world to name the first thing that pops in their mind when they think of Kentucky and I bet most people would say, “The Kentucky Derby”. But what could the Derby have to do with Christmas?

Well the Kentucky Derby Museum is hosting a “Cakes with Kris Kringle” event this Saturday December 9th. The event has two seating times, one from 8:30am-10am, the other from 10:30am-12:00pm. You need to purchase tickets to the event which are available on their website.

During the event you will enjoy delicious pancakes. You will also be able to frequent the hot chocolate bar, get your photo taken with Santa, have a story read to you by Mrs. Claus, participate in an ornament workshop, and meet a miniature horse plus lots more.

This event is hosted by the Kentucky Derby Museum adjacent to Churchill Downs. The Museum was fully renovated in 2010. The neighborhoods surrounding Churchill Downs include Parkway Village, Wyandotte, Wilder Park, and of course U of L.

If you need any more neighborhood information, what your house is worth, buyer and seller programs or anything regarding real estate Louisville please contact Scott Boehnlein of Family Realty. We love Louisville and we are loving Christmas in Louisville. We hope you are too.

Christmas Events Part 1: Underground Light Extravaganza

The holiday season is in full swing and Christmas is only 24 days away (who’s counting?). The colder weather has certainly made an appearance. This morning I was met by a glittering wonderland as the frost clung to everything in sight and sparkled in the sunrise.

With the Christmas season there is lots to do with family and friends in and around Louisville. We at Family Realty don’t only love real estate Louisville, but love Louisville itself. So over the next few weeks we’ll highlight some great Louisville Christmas activities available this season.

We thought we’d start this series highlighting the most uniquely Louisville Christmas event: Lights under Louisville. Louisville is home to the Mega Cavern, a 4 000 000 Sq Ft former lime stone mine. Mega Cavern has several underground adventures including zip lines and bike trails. But over Christmas it hosts the largest underground light display in the world.

According to their website there are “over 850 lit characters with over 3,000,000 points of light” which you can view from the comfort of your own car as you travel the 17 mile track underground. This 30 or so minute drive is a spectacular light display for the whole family.

Lights under Louisville charges one price for a whole car and is open every night of the week until December 31st. They also offer a few promos and special events on their website. One of them is a dinner at Louisville Zoo nearby and a free VIP pass to the lights.

Part of the Mega Cavern is situated under the Louisville Zoo which is in the Poplar Hills neighborhood. This neighborhood lies alongside two other neighborhoods namely Audubon Park and Strathmoor Village. There is a good amount of green space in these neighborhoods including Creason Park and Audubon Country Club.

If you have any real estate needs this holiday season Family Realty would love to help. If so contact Scott Boehnlein or any one of our dedicated agents. We are here to help you with real estate Louisville, but also hope to help you with your Christmas fun in these blogs.
